Competitions and Conventions
Livestock Judging
Our livestock judging group includes ffa members who are interested in judging a variety of livestock. Members get to travel to different competitions such as the Sioux Empire Livestock Show and see how their ratings match up with the judges. Our chapter has received numerous awards and metals from competing in these events.
Sub-Districts and Districts
In sub-districts and districts, different CDEs and LDEs compete for awards. Depending on the competition you may start in either sub-districts or automatically begin at districts. By receiving gold ratings, the event will move up farther into state convention and so on. The Central Lyon FFA competes in the Northwest district with a number of other high schools.
State Convention
When students advance to state, they get to attend state convention usually held in Ames or Des Moines. Members get to opportunity to compete against students in the entire state and receive awards. During the multiple day sessions, the next year's state officers are elected in. Other state convention events include the talent show, choir, key speakers and band. Many Central Lyon FFA members have participated or received special honors at state convention.

District Officers
Banquet
The Central Lyon FFA banquet is held at the end of the school year in order to give out awards and appoint new officers. Our chapter hosts a meal and invites all parents and friends to attend. After the presentation of awards, a key note speaker is invited to address the audience. To wrap up the ceremony an end of the review slide show is played to look back on the memories from the chapter. At the end of the night, the chapter hosts a silent auction in order to pay for the funds of the event. The banquet for many is a fun way to recognize student's accomplishments and conclude a year of success.
